About us

Next Door Wood Store is dedicated to promoting products manufactured by members of The National Community Wood Recycling Project (NCWRP), a growing nationwide network of social enterprises committed to saving resources and creating work for disadvantaged people.

Our members work with local and national building firms to collect waste timber from construction and demolition sites, and guarantee to find the best environmental use for what they collect. As much as possible is pushed up the waste hierarchy in to reuse; sold to the community for DIY or building materials or made into a range of recycled wood products. Wood which is unsuitable for reuse is chopped for firewood or kindling, the remainder is passed on for chipping.

Because community wood recycling is so labour intensive it creates a great deal of work and training for some of the most marginalised in society, people who find it difficult to compete in the labour market. What better way to develop confidence, self-esteem and a range of useful work skills than in a structured but supportive environmental social enterprise?

What we are not:
  • We do not source virgin timber from far flung forests.
  • We do not mass produce in factories.
  • We do not import products from anywhere in the world.

  • Why are we here?
  • Because we want to to make the fabulous work of our members accesible to everyone.
  • Because we want to promote the use of recycled wood; a high quality but undervalued resource.
  • Because we want to encourage more craftspeople to work with this wonderful material.

  • How we work

Next Door Wood Store is a catalogue of recycled goods made by our members - who are independent manufacturers and craftspeople from across the UK. Ordering through our website is easy but we do not currently accept payment through this site.

Wherever possible we will put you in touch with the organisation closest to where you live to fulfil your order. If you don't have one nearby, but would still like to purchase recycled wood products, we can ship them to you. Because we are local to everywhere in the UK we'd like you to think of us as your very own Next Door Wood Store.

When you place an enquiry with us it goes straight through to the people who will make your product, you can do this by pressing the 'make an enquiry' button on the products page. Your request will go straight through to the manufacturers of the product who will contact you regarding your particular specifications, requests, and delivery costs. You will then be able to pay through Paypal and the product/s will be shipped to you.

Next Door Wood Store is a window in to the manufacturing side of a world of local enterprises that are aiming to do something positive with loads of wonderful wood that other people have left behind. Our products are usually made to order, have a variety of finishes, and only use recycled timber.

Unlike virgin material, the supply of recycled timber cannot be guaranteed. As a result ordering a product through this website does not commit us to fulfilling your order, only the manufacturers themselves can do this. Should the manufacturers we put you in touch with be unable to fulfil your order, we will do our very best to help you to find an alternative supply of the product you want through our network of social enterprises.

Thank you for supporting the National Community Wood Recycling Project and its members!
